Focusing on the example of Whitehaven, West Cumbria, this PhD research project will explore how the cultural memory of a place is presented through creative programming including exhibitions and public art.
The project will explore how the past is presented across three examples of creative programming one permanent, one undergoing change, and one temporary. These are
- The Whitehaven Harbour public artworks
- The Rum Story Reimagined Exhibition
- The West Cumbrian Carnival Exhibition
As part of the project, Natasha will interview the creators of each of these programmes to understand the curatorial decisions made and will undertake questionnaires with visitors to understand how they perceive these presentations of the past in the present.
