Democratic in delivery and egalitarian in execution, Martin Hamblen embraces the common criticism of contemporary art ‘I could do that’. Inspired by Marcel Duchamp (everything can be art) and Joseph Beuys (everybody can be an artist) Hamblen’s object-based practice is concerned with process and the everyday. Since graduating he has been collecting ready made, ‘found’ objects. His performance-based practice is concerned with everyday language. He performs phrases, he does the saying.
